Welcome to the Easy German
Conversation Membership

Moderated Zoom Calls

We offer moderated Zoom calls with the Easy German team five times per week (occasionally, calls may be canceled due to national holidays or unforeseen circumstances). In these calls, we always focus on one specific topic, so you can pick up new vocabulary and actively use it in conversation. After a quick introduction with the entire group, we split into smaller breakout rooms to make sure everyone gets a chance to practice.

(note: these times are valid from March 15, 2024)

Open Conversations on Discord

Additionally, we provide audio rooms on Discord where you can practice spontaneously with other German learners and talk about anything that interests you three times per day:

(note: these times are valid from October 2023)

What should I keep in mind as a participant of the Conversation Calls?

In our calls you have the opportunity to talk to other members and us, the Easy German Team, about various topics, work on your conversation skills and have lots of fun. To make these conversations as pleasant as possible for all participants, we would like to ask you to keep a few things in mind:

👉🏽 Be on time (if possible): It isn’t a problem if you join a few minutes late. However, if you can be on time, it would be helpful to avoid delays in the process and to facilitate the technical side (setting up the breakout rooms etc.).

👉🏽 Activate your camera and enter your name: If possible, turn on your camera so that we and the other members can see you. This contributes to a pleasant and personal conversation experience. By right-clicking on your picture you can enter the name that will appear for everyone to address you by.

👉🏽 Raise your hand before you speak (only applies to the large, shared room): Use the appropriate function (,,reactions") on Zoom to virtually raise your hand before you start speaking. This helps to avoid interruptions and gives everyone a chance to speak.

👉🏽 Be mindful about your speaking time: Please be considerate of the other participants and don’t speak for a disproportionately long time so that other members also have the opportunity to speak and participate in the conversation.

👉🏽 Listen attentively: Take time to listen to other members and value their contributions. Respect the opinions and perspectives of other participants. Stay non-judgemental and empathetic. We want everyone to feel comfortable.

👉🏽 Introduce yourself briefly: At the beginning of a breakout room, you can briefly introduce yourself to the other members if you wish. This encourages interaction and creates a more personal atmosphere.

  • It depends! Sometimes, just a handful of people join, at other times, there might be several dozen learners in a call. However, we make sure to create break-out sessions with only 3-4 people in every Zoom call, so you’ll be able to practice speaking in a small and familiar atmosphere.

  • First, you’ll need to sign up for Discord, a free chat app we use to communicate with all of our members. Once you have a Discord account, you’ll need to link it with your Patreon account to get access to our members-only chat rooms. Here’s a tutorial on how to set up Discord: easygerman.org/discord

  • You can reach us anytime at info@easygerman.org.

  • Our membership is designed for individuals aged 18 and above. Due to legal reasons, underaged children cannot sign up for our membership independently.

  • During conversation calls, participants split into smaller groups, and we cannot directly oversee all individual discussions. For this reason, we cannot guarantee child-friendly content within these settings. If underaged learners wish to participate, we strongly recommend that they only do so with the guidance and supervision of a parent or legal guardian to ensure a safe and suitable learning experience.
